Tom Gordon is expected to miss a few days after compaining of a sore shoulder.

Explaining his recent struggles. The Phillies are optimistic this is nothing serious, though they've yet to have him undergo tests. An MRI is scheduled for Tuesday. Tom Gordon has had enough of the pain and will miss the next few days with right shoulder inflammation.

Gordon said that he's felt something for "a couple of months," but continued to pitch, albeit not up to his usual standards.

Manager Charlie Manuel said he expected Gordon to be out for a few days and would determine his closer based on matchups.

Why must these guys continue to play when they are injured, especially pitchers? I can see a position player getting away with playing through an injury, but pitchers have such a small margin for error as it is.

I would have preferred that Gordon report his injury earlier so he didn't tank my ERA and WHIP last week.

An MRI exam performed on Tom Gordon's shoulder showed inflammation, but no structural damage.

Gordon is expected back by the end of the week. "The last couple of days, I actually felt a little better," Gordon said on Monday. "For a while, I tried to not pay it any mind, and just gone out there and tried to help the team in any way I can. Now, I think it's time to get this taken care of. We're just trying to strengthen it in every way and getting a better feel." Manager Charlie Manuel said that Arthur Rhodes and Ryan Madson would be his preferred choices to close while Gordon was out.
