this isnt really a bad beat.. but it anoys the hell outta me.. just happend..
playing 2/4 table.. got about 200.. get j10 of hearts late position, no raises yet so i raise it to 15, about 4 callers before me.. get three callers.. flop comes:
A hearts, J, 7 hearts
so i hit mid pair and my flush draw.. checks to me.. i bet just ten.. two people fold leaving three in the pot.. turn is a low card.. shouldnt play (and doesnt)
river comes its the K of hearts... so if figure i won with my flush unless someone called preflop with Q9 at best.. and figured they wouldnt call that.. so i bet hard.. 30.. i get re raised all in.. i think he hit his king or two pair possibly.. i heavily think he has the queen.. but really wonder why someone would call 15 preflop with q9 or lower.. and if thats a likely chance to have something like that.. so i call.. figure its worth the risk, pots near 350-400.. guy flips over Q6.. just hurt to see and know i kinda had the right read..

Still made out like a bandit though...good 'ole ploys always work.
Huh? Did you mean you lost to sevns over kings, or am I missing something here?
Plus that's not really a bad beat, he had you dominated at every stage of the hand (assuming he had K/7 and his boats was sevens over kings).
Agreed. If he had K/7, he was a big favorite, and if he had K/K, he was a huge favorite. If he had K/7, I hope he limped off the small blind. If not, I need to find people like that to play with.
Sorry, got home late, posted the hand wrong.
I had 74. Flopped 774. Turn was a K. River was a 2. Either way, I take it as a bad beat, simply because I flopped a full house, and there were only two hands that could have beaten what I had, K/7 and K/K. He had the latter. The kid was in an early position, and even bet after the flop. Not that it was a poor bet...there were only three of us playing the hand, he was chip leader, and rarely bluffs. At that point in the game, I had top possible hand.

I mean, even when someone else has me totally dominated, but I'm 99% sure I have the best hand (like if I have high pair on the board and someone else has a higher pocket pair), I consider that a bad beat. Because I think I have the pot won and then someone turns over something I had no idea was coming and I just sit there and think, "Aw, crap."
A bad beat is when the better hand on the win percentage win scale preflop loses to a lesser hand once the hand is over.
Take Marver's example: K/K vs 7/4. K/K is about 84% to win that hand preflop. Marver flopped a miracle 7/7/4 (didn't need a miracle, just needed 7/7 or 7/4 on the flop which is still highly unlikely to happen - hence only the 16% chance or so to win the hand preflop), but the other guy hit his King on the tun to hit a bigger boat and win.
No bad beat in that story. Rough way to lose when you flop a boat off the big blind, but K/K was a huge favorite to win the hand preflop.
As to how he played it, since he was the chip leader and in early position, looks like he simply called the blinds hoping someone would raise preflop and he could either slow play his pocket kings, or reraise the original raiser all in. Since no one raised, it put him at a little risk, but it never hurts to change up playing style a bit.
I trap people preflop all the time because most people are raise happy. Raising preflop with k/q, j/10, any ace (in the case of any ace, most are not even playable, yet people raise preflop with them) etc., because of what they see on TV. I love getting on a preflop raise happy table, and look for those tables before sitting down. Easy money.

Sorry man, but I've already got an affiliate I use. Full Tilt is worth somewhere between $90-$120 (haven't checked in awhile) for me if I sign up through them. Unless of course you have someone with a better deal? PM me if you want and we'll talk some.
