Prospect trade help ...

Postby JRM4833 » Mon Aug 14, 2006 11:06 am

Was offerred Gorzellany for my Mathis. I have Johjima locked up for 4 more years at catcher, but he's not exactly a rock in Seattle with Clement looming. I like Gorzellany's stuff a lot (especially the K/BB ratio) but is it worth grabbing a prospect from the Pirates? Plus, in my league Mathis is still in a minor league contract while Gorzellany is in a major league contract so I'd have less control over him. Any thoughts?

Im not sure about the difference between the major and minor league contracts in your league, but I think you should make the deal. Gorzellanny looks like a good pitching prospect, while Mathis struggled in the major leagues. Although Mathis is doing okay now in the minor leagues his prospect status appears to have taken a hit

The difference is that minor league call ups get put in a 5 year prospect contract at $2, $4, $6, $8, $10, so it's a pretty huge distinction. If I trade for Gorzellanny I have to resign him in the offseason but I'd have restricted rights to match any offer, which shouldn't be very big. Thanks.
