sheffield or matsui

Postby bigmoney » Mon Aug 14, 2006 11:04 am

just saw this article regarding the injuries of sheff and matsui: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/11/sport ... 1pins.html

"hand specialist Charles Melone was encouraged by Sheffield’s progress and expected him to return stronger than he was before. But though Williams said Sept. 15 is a realistic target date for Sheffield’s return, he did not know when Sheffield would be able to swing."

"If either player returns, Torre said, he would expect Matsui to be back sooner. But Torre has ruled out a return in August for Matsui, who is hitting off a tee with a 24-inch bat and swinging only with his right hand. Matsui is also not yet using his glove to play catch."

I have sheff right now on my DL spot and Matsui is on FA. are you guys holding on to sheff, matsui, or neither?

Ive been holding on to Matsui all year but the latest news isnt really all that encouraging. If u have a free DL spot hang on to him if not drop him. Who knows if he'll even be productive when he gets back.

I love Matsui, but I honestly don't think in terms of fantasy he will contribute this year. I do think he will return for the Yankees playoff run, but by then, that may be the last week of fantasy playoffs and odds are he will be rusty - my leagues unfortunately doesn't have DLs (Why Sportsline Why :-P ) , but even if it did, I'd use the DL spot for a pitcher - lets face it, finding a hot outfielder on the WW for a week or two spot start isn't hard to find.
Help me out here? : http://www.fantasybaseballcafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=2321827#2321827

i have sheff on my DL b/c its basically a free acquisition when he comes back.. but im not too optimistic on getting any worthy production this year. i mean he's supposed to return sept. 15... which is the end of the week of the semi finals in my league.

I picked Matsui up off of the ww in a keeper league months ago. I hoped for production this year, but don't expect any now.

I will definitely keep him for next year though.
