Thought on the Cubs

I learned something about the Cubs this week, something I wouldn't have learned had we not lost four of five.

I learned that behind all the cuddliness and cuteness, behind the scenery, unemployment, and alcoholism of Wrigley field, the Cubs really are just a bunch of thugs. Lofton, Ramirez, Simon, SamME Sideshow, Wood, Zambrano, Alfonseca, Farnsworth...they really are just a bunch of punks on the field. And of course, they're led by the king of all thugs in Dusty Baker.

Now certainly the Cards have their share of thugs, but I read in the Post-Dispatch that Vina is considering playing for the Cubs next year!

If strength of schedule is our only indicator, than the Cubs are your 2003 Central Division champions. But it really is a shame that by importing the biggest punk manager in MLB (and the second most overrated manager), the Cubs front office was also able to import a playoff berth.

Go Cardinals - 9 time world champions! (Something the Cubs will never be able to say about themselves.)
