Sorry for the questions but after reading an earlier post I didnt even realize there was as much strategy in a H2H league.
So, on to my question after a short explanation, or a long one. First year of fantasy baseball, after years of fantasy football. I am in several leagues, this is the only H2H one tho. Finished third in the league in the regular season, so I am rather happy with that. But the playoffs are going on now. This was a random invite league. I didn't know anyone in the league. Playing in this league for a chance to take a team over in a keeper league, which intrigued me mightily. Winner of the playoffs get a chance to take the team over.
One of the teams that didnt make the playoffs dumped his team after a whiny post about how the league wasn't fun and such. I attempted 5 pick ups and got them all, surprisingly. Did I err? And I am not asking for reason of ethics, I am asking as a way to help myself.
Here was my team that helped me do so well. Pick ups in parathensis, and new roster positions

Did I mess up benching my guys playing in San Juan for FLA and MTL?
Also Sanchez didnt play tonight, any reason why?
Any moves you would make? Did I mess up putting someone in who I shouldn't? Did I make a mistake dropping Paul LoDuca? Same with Looper for Hasegawa?
That's a lot of info...if you condense a bit, you'll get a few more responses next time!
From what I gathered... If the commish didn't make a move to put the players back on the team that dumped them, then I think it's fine that you picked them up. It looks to me like no one else in your league really cares that much b/c somone would have put in a WW claim for those guys.
As for the other moves, I'd stick with what you've got for this weekend, and re-evaluate at the beginning of next week. Hope this helps.

I was wondering the same thing.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

As far as the ethics of the situation go, it's the responsibility of the commissioner IMO when something like that happens to either decide or get the league owners to come to a consensus decision about what to do with the dropped players. Basically, there's two routes you can take
1. Decide to just let things fly and let people pickup the dropped players based on waiver priority.
2. Decide to freeze these players so noone can pick them up for the rest of the season, and then release them into the draft pool for next year.
I think option 2 is fairest, because noone is likely preserving their #1 waiver priority in the expectation that something like this would happen, and whoever has the highest priority if there are two competing teams could easily decide the outcome of the league.
However, if the commish made no move to ask people not to pick up the players or lock them down, then what you did is fine, because you had to put your waiver claims in to make sure if the players wound up going through waiver priority, you'd get your fair crack at them. I don't think you did anything wrong.
