and loaiza's been able to show he can pitch. did anyone see him in new york? ONE hit over SEVEN innings, NINE strikeouts. and that one hit was a fight-off by garcia that he got lucky on. i'm giving loaiza the benefit of the doubt. he doesn't need a wacky windup to scare hitters like willis or nomo does. so if the stats lie in schmidt's favor, how come they don't lie in loaiza's?

he's had 8 games with at least 8 strikeouts, and has only given up more than five runs once. he's had 14 starts where he gave up only 0 or 1 runs; opponents are batting .219 against him.


he's had 24 quality starts out of 28 overall. he's given up less hits than innings 17 times, and has only walked more than three twice. his confidence is higher than ever, and it's showing.

Melvin Mora I highly doubt will repeat his success until his hand injury like this year.

Also I don't know if Jose Guillen (A's) will keep it up either next year.
