I know it carries better with the roof closed at Safeco, but I can't be sure about all parks. I know that Junior used to want the roof closed every day so he had a better shot at hitting balls out. It may be stadium-specific though, because for instance Safeco is still open-air with the roof closed, whereas I know others are fully enclosed when the roof is shut...

maybe it depends on the stadium. i heard the ball carries better with the roof is open in MMP.
Oh...I thought they closed the roofs for the HR Derby if they can because it traveled better. Maybe not though.
i am not 100% sure.
The Astros wanted the roof closed because the facility is much louder when enclosed, and they feel that gives them an edge. Though some pitchers feel the closed roof gives them an edge and that the ball doesn't carry as well, the evidence to support that claim is sketchy.
i've always heard the announcers say the open roof lets the ball carry further, but i that doesnt exactly sound right since the increased humidity should slow down the ball. maybe it acts more like a wind tunnel if its open?

Junior never played at Safeco, and as far as I know never even took batting practice there as he was traded right before it opened.

Safeco opened mid-season 1999. He played half a season there. Trust me.
