just got what looked like an "official" ebay email with their logos, links, etc. telling me that the seller of the laptop i bid (and lost) on is giving me a second chance to buy the laptop at my final offer bid because the guy who apparently won was a fraud.

my question is that this email tells me to contact the seller at his personal email addy, which i do, and then the seller responds to me that he needs my full name, id, item #, address, and phone number in order to make the transaction legit through ebay. he also says he is in the UK right now for his sister's wedding, but that the item is already in custody of the shipping company ready to ship.

should i not give this guy my info? it seems a bit fishy to me, but at the same time it would be a great deal. also, it doesn't seem like this information is anything besides public record for the most part and couldn't be used to harm me, am i wrong :-?

I had an issue with fake emails asking for personal information. Check out some stuff here and see if you can get an answer: http://pages.ebay.com/securitycenter/

I wouldn't even consider responding to the email before getting an okay from eBay.

Yes, but not completed.

Sign into eBay and go into your my eBay; if it's there, it should be legit. I don't think it's necessary to communicate through email or anything. :-?

I got one of these too, i bidded and lost a Larry Johnson Jersey, but a day later i got the email, did what it said, and everything went smoothly. i got my jersey 3 days after the transaction on paypal.

i think everything should be done through ebay. i wouldnt contact someone through their personal address.

I agree.

If you get a legit second chance offer, it'll show up in "My Ebay." I've done one through there and it went fine.
