Coincidentally, I just made the same move today.
It pained me to drop Cantu as I traded for him early in the season, giving up Jason Schmidt. However, with Utley at 2B and Rolen at 3B, he didn't have a starting place in my lineup. As far as reserves go, DeRosa will prove much more valuable with his 4-position eligibility, not to mention his better overall stats.

I don't think De Rosa is a permanent roster player but he is still very valuable in all leagues due to his multi position eligibility. He makes a great platoon player especially when playing at home and / or facing a left handed started pitcher. He's crushing lefties this season.

Ill note that i made two threads at different points in the year advising people to pick him but be quick with the hook on a cold streak.
if they did that, and skipped say a week of his quick cold streak last month, theyve gotten great production out of him.
I havnt started him all that much lately, but i started him the last two days and got the 3 hr/8 rbi.
DeRo's been great.
start him against lefties, use him as a monday/thursday/injury backup for 2b/ss/OF the rest of the time in my opinion.

Wish I grabbed him especially when I heard that he's been imitating/learning from MYoung. That's why he's been hitting for a good avg, I guess. However, my lineup is stacked.

I'm loving him right now. I've gotten more HR and RBI out of him in the four games since I picked him up than I did for the 3.5 weeks I had Uggla.
