When Trevor's contract expires Cassidy will be 32. I think the chance he gets that closer role are slim to none...I think someone like Cla Meredith has a much better chance, although closers at that arm slot are not common.

To quote the question originally posed by the topic starter...
Who are some young players expected to step into setup/closing roles in the near future, ala 2007 or 2008?

I haven't included teams with a young closer who figures to keep the role through 2008 (Orioles - Ray, Blue Jays - Ryan, White Sox - Jenks, Angels - K-Rod, etc.). Of course, this is by no means a complete list, but should fit the bill well, I hope.
Atlanta Braves - Joey Devine/Anthony Larew Arizona Diamondbacks - Brandon Medders/Tony Pena Boston Red Sox - Craig Hansen (if Papelbon returns to SP role) Chicago Cubs - Kerry Wood Cincinnati Reds - Bill Bray/Grant Balfour Cleveland Indians - Fernando Cabrera/Fausto Carmona/Brian Sikorski Colorado Rockies - Ramon Ramirez Florida Marlins - Taylor Tankersley/Logan Kensing Los Angeles Dodgers - Jonathon Broxton Milwaukee Brewers - Jose Capellan Pittsburgh Pirates - Matt Capps San Diego Padres - Scott Cassidy San Francisco Giants - Brian Wilson Seattle Mariners - Rafael Soriano St. Louis Cardinals - Adam Wainwright Tampa Bay Devil Rays - Seth McClung/Edwin Jackson/Chad Orvella/Juan Salas
some to add
SF - Merkin Valdez
Fla - Travis Bowyer
Det - Joel Zumaya
NYY - Octavio Dotel
Atl - Danys Baez, Will Startup
Tor - Brandon League
SD - Scott Linebrink
Tex - Rick Bauer/Joaquin Benoit
FA - Urbina (who knows?)
Add in Blaine Boyer for the Braves. If he can get healthy he'll be a stud closer. I think the Braves envision him as the future closer as well. Startup and LeRew are both certainly capable but the Braves put LeRew back in the rotation this year for some odd reason after he trained to relieve, and then didn't switch him back to the pen during his struggles. He fixed his mechanics, dominated AA, and is back up to AAA, but I think his future might be in the rotation.

hope Dotel is willing to wait like 4 more years.
Why? He's a pending FA and has stated that he wants to close after this year. Which means, he probably won't be on the Yankees next year.
