Justin Speier to the 15-day DL

TORONTO (AP) -- The Toronto Blue Jays placed reliever Justin Speier on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday night with tightness in his right forearm.

Speier was placed on the DL after allowing a go-ahead, three-run double in the seventh inning of Tuesday's 8-4 loss to Baltimore.

"It's a big blow," said manager John Gibbons, who intends to use Jeremy Accardo and Brandon League in the eighth inning while Speier recuperates.

Speier is 1-0 with a 3.05 ERA in 51 appearances this season. The right-hander said he's been dealing with the problem over his past six outings, but the pain intensified in the past week.

He had been doing nicely for me in a league where we count appearances and K's, contributing well in those categories.

At least he opens up a space for Kazmir for now and lets me figure out what I want to do with my rotation.
