Lefty lineup: Chone Figgins sat out Tuesday's game with Maicer Izturis at third and batting leadoff. Figgins is in the midst of a 4-for-32 skid, but Scioscia said putting him on the bench is more about getting other bats in the lineup.

"Figgy has played a lot this season and we're trying to get him to catch his breath, but as much as anything it's to get Tim Salmon's bat in the lineup," Scioscia said. "We're liking this alignment. (Robb Quinlan) and Tim are swinging the bats well."

He has to get on base to get those steals, and unfortunately he can't do that at the moment.
