Ouch. :-P

Agreed. Age or not. Injury or not. This is a guy who dominated the league for a long time.

I'd take a chance on him in the 3rd round... He'll put up good numbers, just not what you're expecting to see by RJ's name.

I think 3rd round is still too early. You can probably get much safer picks in the 3rd round like Hudson, Zito, Mulder, Halladay, Millwood, etc.

Yeah, 3rd might be a bit early...just depends on who goes in the first 2 or 3 rounds (pitchers or hitters).

Could be excellent value next year. He's been down with a leg injury this year if I'm not mistaken ... hardly that serious for a pitcher.

But I doubt he'll drop to the 5th round. I imagine someone will take him by the end of the second (with Piazza) ... there's always one.

i gotta tell you guys...

i went to a D-Backs game last year. just for fun, and because Unit was on the mound. he absolutely dominated, it was almost scary. 17 K's in 9 innings. when he's healthy, he's flat-out unhittable at ANY age.

the only problem with Unit is that his slider is hanging over the middle instead of darting in. when he has that slider, it's the best pitch any pitcher throws. by a mile.

i know he'll come back to form. a drop-off like that in one year? it's unthinkable. he'll be back. watch.

I'm sure someone out there will take him before the second round is over. Most of us won't get him late in the draft because someone will take a chance on him early.

And if that's the case, IMO, so be it. Even if he returns almost to form (like Brown this year), he still won't be that much better than pitchers like Mulder, Zito, Hudson, Halladay, Wood, Morris, Mussina, etc. that will probably be there in the 3rd round and carry much less risk.

I'm going to avoid him next year unless he falls to round 5. Just too risky for me. ;-)
