I didn't get to see that much of it but the Twins announcers said he looked a lot better. That he got out of trouble and he had a 1-2-3 inning. Doesn't sound anything all that great but I think it's a sign his nerves are starting to settle down and he should start doing real good.

The only thing that really worried me was he needed 100+ pitches to get through five.

I feel confident enough that I picked him up after last weeks horrible outting and this start makes me feel better about it.

Thats how I look at it - or at least hoping it will turn out - really no better pitching options at this point in the season, so I have nothing to lose by holding onto him a bit longer.

Hard to say, but if you take a look at Garza's AAA stats I do believe he got killed in his first two starts there as well. Then he was lights out.
;-D

3rd start: Win, 1 ER, 1BBI, 5HA, 1K, 6inn ;-D - you called it - would have liked to see more Ks, but I'll take this as a positive sign.

At every level he struck out about 10 per nine innings. He did this mainly throwing fastballs though (97 mph - all the way into the 9th inning), and the Twins are demanding he throw the rest of his arsenal, which is good but not + yet. He started in A ball this year, so he learns quickly. Out of all the rooks I think he's the best bet to turn into a monster - Hamels a close second!

Here's general minor league stuff:
