The current poll has him leading with 40+% of the vote and A-Rod with 30%. I'm a huge Cards fan and Pujols is awesome but I don't see why would anyone take him over A-Rod.
Pujols will be 1B/OF eligible next year, but even so, I still would take him first overall. His age, upside, and the offense he's in means he could easily have an even better year next year. Even with positional scarcity, I don't buy that you really need a SS in the first round. Even if you don't get ARod, Tejada, Nomar and Jeter will still be there, and Renteria, Furcal and Berroa have all emerged as solid starters too.
Vlad would be a late 1st round pick, because he isn't necessarily stealing, and there's some questions about his back, but he is a free agent, and if he goes to a more favorable lineup, his production could explode. Even if he isn't stealing, a .330-45-130 year is very first round material and very reachable for Vlad if he stays healthy.
ARod is the safest top pick and that means a lot to me. You cannot waste your 1st round pick (anyone who drafted Vlad or Unit this year were put in a deep hole)... Pujols at OF or 1B doesn't measure up, with 3B it would make me think more. Soriano and Vlad have questions. Unit, Schilling and Pedro shouldn't be #1's anymore. Prior should be a first rounder, but not top 3.
I disagree, because you can probably get Pujols in round one, and then Tejada, Renteria or Jeter in round 2, still getting great production out of your SS. 2B and C are the only positions to lack more than a couple viable elite options anymore, and there's no 2B or C you'd want to consider in the top 5. SS is actually now a decently deep position.
