Verlander to skip a start

Postby Dannomyte » Fri Aug 04, 2006 4:36 pm

From Tigers insider Danny Knobler

Verlander to skip a start

DETROIT -- Don't get alarmed, but Justin Verlander isn't pitching Sunday. He's fine, but they're trying to keep him fresh. He'll start next Friday in Chicago. Ledezma starts Sunday.

No suprise here. Leyland said he was planning a few things to limit Verlanders innings.

Seems he is finally giving out. Good thing I didn't trade for him a week ago :-°

I read somewhere that the Tigers might go to a 6 man rotation once Maroth come back to give Verlander some more rest. Don't know if they'll follow through with that though.

Verlander's going through a tired arm stage, they just pushed him back a few days to give him rest, nothing to be overly concerned about.

I think Verlander will be fine for the season. They're keeping him at around 100 pitches most of the time and I think that's the important thing. I think you'll see him miss starts once in awhile for this same reason, but i wouldn't be too concerned. In fact, you should be relieved. Hopefully he'll stay healthy and fresh.

lol

This isn't uncommon among young pitchers who aren't used to throwing so many innings, a little rest will surely help.

Let's not kid ourselves, the 130-pitch outing went a long way toward this news...

If Leyland runs him back out there for more of that, we can expect some more skipped starts in September.

130 pitch outting???? The most Verlander has thrown in a game is 121 pitches and that was back in April. His 2nd highest was 114 on May 22nd. Since then the Tigers and Leyland have been extremely careful with JV pulling him right around 100 pitches.
