Willis is taken out after 6.2 innings with a man on first. In waltzes Nate Bump who promptly gives up a double to let the runner score. Up goes my era. Seems like this happens almost every time one of my pitchers comes out with at least 1 man on base. Very annoying.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
I agree...I can't tell you how many runs my staff has given up because of a runner on base and then a RP coming in and giving up a hit... ...and yes it happened with Willis tonight....

England's Worcester Canoe Club set the world record for paddling a hand-propelled bathtub. The 25 man team covered a distance of 55 miles, 425 yards in 24 hours on September 28 and 29, 1979.
I too hate the fact that inherited runners that are allowed scored by bad middle relievers count towards the starter's ERA. I think they should adjust the ERA stat to account for the fact that inherited runners scoring are not entirely the fault of the pitcher that left them there. They should pro rate the earned run. IE. If the pitcher coming out leaves a runner on first and a reliever lets him score, the starter gets charged with .25 earned runs, and the reliever .75; if he left the runner on 2nd, they both get charged with half an earned run, etc.
That would make ERAs, especially of middle relievers a much more accurate indicator of performance. You wouldn't have worthless middle relievers like Ray "put Austin Kearns out for the season" King looking pretty with their sub-3.00 ERA that is so low only because he lets every inherited runner score.
I like that idea. Dividing up the earned run would be a nice change.

I hate them for an entirely different reason. I picked up Rafael Soriano because I'm in a very very tight race for our league's ERA title. 4 ER all season? Sign me up! Since then he's let in 3 runs in something like 4.1 IP -- which is decent, but in our race (the current gap between me and second is 0.008!) that matters a whole lot. I'm dropping him.

That is a tight era race. Good luck with it.
