what rule of thumb do I use to determine who will be pitching twice next week?
If he starts on Wednesday or Thursday of this week, it seems that he should start on Monday or Tuesday of next week.
With my bye week in the playoffs and my aces pitching twice this week, I need help with my pitching in the playoffs next week or I'm exit as fast as the A's in last year's playoffs.
One league has Trachel, Lilly, Towers and Hitchcock. Same in second league. Lilly and Towers have been piching good, and Hitchcock with Cardinals has offense behind him.
Generally speaking, you can just add 5 days to the date of a pitcher's last start to see when he pitches again. In basic Monday - Sunday leagues, if a pitcher pitches on a Tuesday, then he should also pitch on that Sunday. Whenever your week starts, the pitcher needs to start on the 1st or 2nd day of the week to get another start in that week. Of course, you need to add in for injuries, off days, and rotation changes (ie. 4 or 6-man).
This is yet another reason why I prefer point and roto leagues over HTH.

Generally, yeah most starters will start at least 5 days after their last start, but some teams have off days, and they handle it differently. Some teams just keep their rotation intact, while others skip their fifth starters on off days and keep everyone else on 4 days rest. However, it will get even more complicated this week with roster expansion, some teams using 6 man rotations and injuries.
