how long does the dream weaver experiment last?

Postby j_d_mcnugent » Thu Aug 03, 2006 5:10 pm

i thought he was a decent gamble but he looks like a scared little girl out there. he gets frustrated too easily and loses composure. how long do you think the cards will continue to go to him? would they use sosa as a starter?

For a second there I thought you were describing Marquis. ;-)
Sosa seems to be a extreme flyball pitcher not exactly Duncan's cup of tea. I think they will hang with Weaver until Mulder comes back.

The running answer to this question is now, "Until the World Series."

speaks volumes about the Angels front office doesn't it?

Cut Jenks .. he goes on to be WS closer
Cut Weaver .. he goes on to be a WS stud! ..

Hopefully next year they cut Vlad ...

You're also forgetting that they cut Eckstein to sign O-Cab.

Former Angels on this WS team:

Eckstein (pronounced Eck-steen)
Spiezio
Edmonds
Weaver

Thanks! ;-D

Me Trying to Defend the Angels Management:

Jeff Weaver was paid $9 million and went 3-10 with a 6.29 ERA in his time with the Angels. Obviously Bud Black couldn't figure out how to fix him, but Dave Duncan could. It was a good trade for both teams, it gave Jered Weaver a chance to be in the rotation and help the Angels have hope of winning the division. Without trading Jeff, the Angels probably would have finished under .500.

The Jim Edmonds trade was aweful, but we did get Adam Kennedy and his 3 home runs against the Twins in Game 5 of the 2002 ALCS, so yeah that evens out.

Scott Spiezio is not that good of a player, but he does show up when it counts. He's obviously best suited as a role player, and the Angels didn't have room for him, so they let him go to Seattle.

David Eckstein is the man. I respect this guy more than any other player in baseball. He was cut by the Red Sox because his arm wasn't strong enough, the Angels picked him up and he played a major part in winning the 2002 WS. Then the Angels, stupidily, believed that he was a liability in the infield and had to go out and sign OCab to replace him. Although OCab is a fine player, Eckstein had something else. It's called heart and chemistry with other teammates. He just keeps on proving people wrong.
