From Rotowire:

Carter put up great numbers in the minors last year, but he's in the wrong league; he's an awful fielder and his best position by far is the DH spot. If Arizona trades him to an AL team, pounce.

Given the depth the DBacks have in the system right now it sounds like a trade is Carter's only chance at making it out of the minors.

The DBacks have Jackson at 1B, so Carter doesn't really have a place to play.

Yeah, I was going to say that I don't think Carter fits well into the D'Back's plans. He does deserve a little more attention, though. I think the excitingment factor really has a lot to do with how prospects are ranked and touted.

Billy Butler was really overlooked last year when he was projected as a DH. Travis Hafner still isn't getting the respect he deserves. David Ortiz was let go by the Twins. You need to have flashy tools in the field and at the plate to really get top prospect status.
