I fear Prior may face Vazquez late next week

Postby Egaas » Tue Sep 02, 2003 12:36 pm

Can anybody do the Math and rotation on this? Prior pitched yesterday, Vazquez pitches today, and I think their offdays will set it up so they face each other.

I have both of these studs, this isn't looking good for my first round in the playoffs if they face each other next week... :-C

I looked at the schedules and I don't see them facing each other.

Vaz goes today, then the Expos play Phi tomorrow, off Thurs, then Fla on Fri, Sat, Sun. If they want Vaz to pitch every 5th day, he could face Fla on Sun. If not, they are off Monday and he'd face the Cubs on Tues the 9th.

Prior went yesterday. The Cubs have a double header today, then Stl on Wed and Thurs. Then Mil on Fri, Sat, Sun. If Prior pitches every 5th game, he would hit Mil on Fri, but more likely he will pitch on Sat. That would set him up to pitch the final game of the series against Montreal on Thurs the 11th, or the first game againt Cin on Fri the 12th.

I don't see the two of them going against each other unless I missed a make up game or another double header somewhere.

Well, TSN's projected starters has Zambrano facing Vazquez next Tuesday, and then Prior starting Saturday against the Brewers and then Friday against the Reds. However, since the Cubs have a Monday off day, I wouldn't be surprised if they bump Prior up a day to face Montreal instead of Cincinatti. If they do, he'd probably face Livan Hernandez.

It shouldn't matter that much to have them pitch against one another. You'd only get one win at best, but if it was a 1-0 game where each had 10 Ks what's one less W going to matter?

i was at wrigley for a prior/vazquez duel earlier this season, and hands down, it was probably the best game i've been to, definitely the best pitched on both sides of the diamond.

prior: CG, 0 ER, 12K
vazquez: 7 IP, 2 ER, 14K

it was freezing cold, the 'spos lost... but man, was that one hell of a game.

the next game was great. i saw vlad whap one onto waveland and tony armas owned the cubs for ~8 innings... 11K. man he was going to be good this season, it ell you.
