that was preaseason. besides, cant i be happy they made one good move. i would be surprised if they won 3 games this year. they have the toughest schedule ever

The Yankees make out big time in this. From what I understand, for him to play in the NFL, the team that signs him would have to buy out the Yankees contract. If that is the case, and I'm pretty sure it is, its great for the Yankees
The Yankees must have known something like this was coming. Otherwise, they wouldn't have picked up Aaron Boone (as crappy a deal as that was for them).
Even when the Yankees got Boone, commentators were saying that it was a sign that management doubted Henson would make the big club.
"One of the teams represents truth, justice, the American way, and underdogs everywhere. The other represents George Steinbrenner!" - U.S. News and World Reports columnist John Leo on the difference between the Mets and the Yankees.

I hadn't heard this. It was my understanding that the Yanks will just make sure that the door doesn't hit him on the way out. I thought that it was a clean break although I could be wrong.

I was getting worried as 5 minutes had gone by without a Yankee criticism. To answer your sarcastic question, they have more and spend more (obviously) but any time that they can lower payroll, they should and do. Based on his comments, George will pay the luxury tax if needed but he hates it when those teams just pocket the money and do nothing to improve.
