I think that the United States should be taking a stand as leading the way toward reducing greenhouse emissions globally.
I know that the so-called "hole in the ozone loyer" has leveled off and has stopped growing; and at this rate may return to its original form in about 100 years. But this is a key difference between American and, lets say, Eastern business/government culture... long term vs. short term. The idea behind Kyoto is that over a span of decades the greenhouse emission will be reduced... I do think that the year goals are arbitrary. America thinks in the now and will rarely, if ever, give up on immediate opportunity for long term benefits. Eastern culture is the opposite.

The irony of all this is that pollution from those same factories is masking the effects of global warming by blocking sunlight from getting to the ground.
That pollution caused global warming but is now masking it.
Damned if we do, damned if we don't.
