The Microsoft Paint "Hand-Drawn" Style Sigs

Lately. I've noticed a bevy of Cafe members have switched from using professional, photo-laden signatures to amateur, kindergaren-like drawings. I was just curious as to when this trend started, by whom, and why? Do you create these in Microsoft Paint or which program do you use?
