Conine will be playing LF while Cabrera takes over at third.

MIAMI -- The Marlins are revisiting their past as they attempt to make a push toward the postseason.
Swinging a late-hour deal Sunday night with the Orioles, the Marlins have acquired veteran Jeff Conine for minor league prospects.

Conine, known as Mr. Marlin when he wore Florida teal from 1993-97, is batting .290 with 15 home runs and 80 RBIs this season for Baltimore.

Obtaining the 37-year-old Conine became a priority after Marlins All-Star third baseman Mike Lowell suffered a broken bone on his left hand after being struck by a pitch from Montreal's Hector Almonte on Saturday.

The versatile 37-year-old veteran can play left field and first base. He is expected to fill in left field while rookie Miguel Cabrera moves to third for Lowell, who will likely miss the entire month of September.

The Marlins are tied with the Phillies for the Wild Card lead.

Conine was a key member of the Marlins' 1997 World Series title team, and he has a home in South Florida.

I'd think that his fantasy value would be relatively unchanged. He does move into a much better lineup, but he also goes from a decent hitter's park to one of the best pitcher's parks in the majors. I'd expect his runs and RBIs to go up, but his HR to go down.
