No AL MVP talk?

[quote= I don't usually disagree with you, Madison, but I have to here. I would NEVER cast my vote for MVP for a player on a sub-.500 team, even if he hit 70 homers. Who the heck is A-Rod most valuable to if his team is in the toilet??? He's only valuable to himself!!!! Giving him the MVP would be a joke, and a disgrace to the award.[/quote]

Why would it be a joke? This year its a toss up, but last year Arod won by 20 lengths. MVP stands for most valuable. Isnt the guy with the most win shares the guy who helped his team win the most? MVP criteria mentions nothing of place in standings, team win totals. It says value to team. Why should Arod get penalized for not having Zito, Hudson, Mulder as teammates?

Before I call it a night, I thought I'd leave this little piece of information quoted from Lou Pinella:

Tampa Bay manager Lou Piniella can.

``The guy with the best numbers is Delgado,'' he said. ``Why should a guy get penalized if he's playing for a lesser team if he's had the best year? It doesn't say anything to me in the MVP voting that each guy has to come from a pennant-winning team. There are probably eight or 10 very deserving candidates.''

Still a tossup in the AL, but at least Pinella knows that the MVP doesn't have to come from a playoff team. Nice job Lou! ;-D
