Mets general manager Omar Minaya initially placed the odds of reliever Duaner Sanchez needing season-ending shoulder surgery at 50-50. But the worst-case scenario is what played out yesterday when tests showed a separated shoulder with ligament damage.

Sanchez underwent the operation in New York, but is expected to be ready for spring training. He was injured when the Miami taxi he was riding in Sunday night was struck by another car.
