The Tigers optioned Shelton to Triple-A Toledo on Monday, following the acquisition of Sean Casey from the Pirates, the Associated Press reports. Shelton joins an elite, if not exclusive group of players, hitting 10 home runs in the first month of the season and ending up back in Triple-A by the end of July. Clearly, this move will allow Shelton to continue playing everyday, as the Tigers want Casey's left-handed bat in the lineup.
And to think this guy was a 1st round pick on those late start drafts......

Leyland has changed the entire lineup except Shelton....
when he was on fire....he was batting 6th when he start to cooling off....7th......8th........
he has never got the chance to regain confidence
LOL No respect??? Leyland said he wouldn't move him up in the line-up when he was hot because he didn't want to add any pressure on him. Looks like it was a smart move by Leyland considering once Shelton got a little pressure from a hot start he struggled BIGTIME. Since his hot April he has been HORRIBLE offensively.
Considering he is average at best defensively and struggling offensively a change needed to be made.

here come the Homers.....
a change need to be made ??
hey....we're talking about Sean "i'm always injuried" Casey not Pujols o Ryan Howard
^I agree Shelton is young and going to the AAA might look bad but there is still sometime for him to improve maybe even get his confidence going again who knows. However he can always get called up by the end of the year fresh with a clear mind heading into the postseason. This should be an interesting topic to follow.

LMAO.
He never got the chance to regain confidence? Isn't that what moving a player to the bottom of the lineup is for? You move him down so that he doesn't press so much, so that he can just concentrate on hitting the ball. Yeah, that stupid Leyland really disrespected Chris Shelton. And let's not stop there...he's really done a terrible job with this Tigers team all year, hasn't he? You should get rid of the bum and move Shelton up in the lineup RIGHT NOW.
