Abreu

Postby Stejay » Sun Jul 30, 2006 5:10 pm

We have finally made a trade for Abreu. The only downside is that we gave too many players up for him and Lindle. I know they were minor leaguers, but they were prospects and we grow to regret we let them go.

Prospects

Postby baseball4life752 » Thu Aug 03, 2006 7:23 pm

I dont think it was too much, we needed a boost in the outfield, and none of the prospects had too much upside besides Henry. Even he wont be a top player like Abreu. Lidle will also help the rotation and we dont have to deal with Ponson anymore. I thought it was a ripoff.

Not many prospects really make you regret them. The Yanks used to do that but how many great ones have they given up over the past 15 or so years that have come back to bite them??

This deal was great. Abreu is one of the best OFs in the majors, and Lidle will hopefully fill a need, eat some innings and maybe throw a few quality starts (and a few more if we're lucky). These prospects could be good - Smith probably has a few good years in him, Henry could be a good (but not GREAT) major league shortstop (though he has a sub-700 OPS in A-ball this year at 20, so he's got a ways to go), and the other reliever throws gas but is still young. But it's unlikely their value will be so great as to defeat what the Yankees received in return. They've made themselves better without mortgaging the future too much.
