I wouldn't be surprised to see a DL trip resulting from this...

ATLANTA -- Chipper Jones left Friday's game after he appeared to reaggravate his left oblique muscle while batting in the fifth inning of Atlanta's series opener with the Mets.

Jones winced in pain after fouling off the first pitch he saw from Pedro Martinez in the fifth. The Atlanta third baseman then hit a slow grounder to second on the next pitch and immediately grabbed his left side as he left the batter's box.

He gingerly walked back to the dugout and, after being examined on the bench, headed for the clubhouse. Wilson Betemit went out to third base for the top of the sixth.

Jones was back in the starting lineup on Friday for only the second time in Atlanta's last seven games. He had been bothered by the strained muscle since the Braves' July 21 game in Philadelphia.

Great player, but totally frustrating to own. I don't like rostering players like Chipper 'cause if you're counting on him in a playoff run or in the fantasy playoffs, he might end up being on the DL or bench at that time.

you shouldn't ever be counting on one player ever. chipper is a great player but in no way should he be the cornerstone of your offense. It would be nice to have him back, but i think i'll be alright without him...

It's official -- back to the DL for Chipper :,-(

I've got Bill Hall as a backup, but he can put up some pretty ugly lines if you don't pick and choose his starts.

Jul 29 The Braves confirmed that Jones will need to go on the DL due to his oblique injury, a move that will take place on Sunday, the Braves' official site reports.

Hope this injury doesn't keep his numbers down when he comes back off the DL. Hope he comes back a ok ;-D

! I'll be using Derosa for his backup.
