I think he will someday turn into a 40 homerun, gold glove thirdbaseman. IS that an optomistic view? Yes, probably, but it is what i project him to do.
As for the best ever at his position, you have to admit that thirdbase is a historically weak postion.

except that Mike Schmidt hit 40 homeruns 3 times, if memory serves me correctly. But whatever. My interest in this topic grows thin.
on a side note i do belive that Gordon has the POTENIAL to hit for more power than Chavez, who has never hit forty homeruns.

He hit 40 3 times but also hit 35 11 times, and had 31 through 102 games in a short season (strike year). Mike Schmidt is a very lofty projection for ANY 3B...
