I've yet to catch either species. Someday I will though.
I caught plenty of sharks in my day. The biggest was a 300lb (Capt's estimate) Blue shark, which is a pretty decent size for that species.
The first shark I ever caught was when I was surf fishing in Fla when I was 12. I had hooked a small fish and a relatively small Black Tip shark (3.5 feet or so) followed it as I reeled it in. I'm suprised I didn't panic. I just released the bail and slowly walked backwards until I was on solid sand away from the beast.
Think I'm going back down to Florida next month. Maybe I'll put down the fresh water tackle for a while and go after some more sharks this time around.

I've caught a bunch of 1 - 2 foot tiny sharks off of the battery in charleston.
You literraly stand on the sidewalk and can pull up shark.
I'm going to Florida in two weeks and I'd love to go fishing for Tarpon, but supposedly you need a special license... or is that for Snook? Either way, Tarpon are the coolest fish.
If you're a battery, you're either working or you're dead....

I love deep see fishing
Man, that's expensive! Big game fishing will put you back and you're not guaranteed a catch. It would be so awesome though, i have gone on some smaller fishing charters.
