Todd Helton -- now officially ordinary? or worse?

OBP of under .300 for the month. Nobody's even walking him anymore. Is it time to stop living in the past?

In his last thirty-one days, Todd Helton's hit percentage is at an unbelievably low 19%. League average is 31%. As it is mostly a factor of luck, this explains much of why Helton has been struggling of late. He's just been unlucky.

Certainly, he is not the player he was a few years ago. However, I'm expecting a sizable adjustment with Helton in the near future. You just don't carry around a 19% hit rate forever. I just traded Konerko for Helton and Bedard (I was mostly after Bedard, but decided to gamble on Helton).

I would not give up on him yet, though I would stash him until his luck changes.

He teased with flashes of his former self in late June with a hot streak that pushed his BA from .267 to a .311 peak but downhill from there to current .281, with subpar power for a 1B and not much reason to think he'll turn it on.

IMHO not much risk in dropping Helton for Gonzalez or LaRoche at this point.

He has been disappointing. I just keep him on the bench and only start him at Coors in the hopes that he will have a big game. Fortunately I have the room and flexibility to keep him on the bench.

I wish I had the option to bench him, but he is my first base.. so I don't have an option... :(
