Choo is scheduled to begin a mandatory two-year service in the South Korean military at the end of the season when his passport expires, the Seattle Times reports.
His agent or something was pretty sure they'd be able to suspend that for about two years. I think if he can become a starter on a MLB team (instead of a minor leaguer), he'll be excused.
Oh, and the Indians wouldn't have traded a player like Broussard for a 2-month rental.

I like the move for Seattle. Broussard should be very solid platooning with Perez and it also allows Sexson to dh on occasion. What is Broussard's contract status
I really like this deal for the Tribe. Choo was a very highly regarded prospect, and seems big league ready. Obviously the Indians have thrown in the towel for this year, but i really like how they are trying to rebuild for future years.

Well, I am very happy the tribe gets rid of an aging platoon player and we get a young stud back. I agree Jones is better, but M's were in talks to deal him for Soriano. I am worried about this whole military service thing, but somehow I see his $ working that out.
On a totally, completely, 180 degree note: Since there are a lot of SEA fans in this thread, I assume some live in Seattle. I am making plans to start a life in Seattle once I am done with Law School (not for a long time considering I am still working undergrad but nevertheless) so I was wondering how is it to live there? Prices? People? Nightlife? Fun stuff? Work? Etc. Any help is appreciated.
Sean Tracey has my apologies, we all know Ozzie Guillen is an idiot. I'm rooting for you!

In the Choo thread, I quoted Shapiro who makes it clear that they didn't acquire Choo to be a two month rental-- that he is in their plans for the future in a corner OF spot. They really like him in the Indians FO. What's funny is that this is only an issue because he got cut from the Korean WBC team (they all were released from their obligation), but it set a precedent that the compulsory military service could be waived for silly reasons (like advancing to a certain round in a totally retarded tournament like the WBC), and a silly reason (possibly merely money) will take care of it for Choo. The Asians take A LOT of pride in their major leaguers in the US. If Shapiro gets Choo a lot of ABs, that is probably enough to make it go away as a problem.
