2007 2B Rankings

Postby Drunken Rhino » Wed Jul 26, 2006 1:17 pm

2B is a concern of mine for next year considering 2 of the top 3 players there this year, currently won't qualify there next year (Figgins & Soriano).

So what do the ranking for 2007 2B look like after Utley?

1. Utley
2. ?????

I mean there is quality young talent like Howie, Weeks, Barfield, Kinsler, Uggla etc. but how much can we really expect out of this crop next year?

Well, Soriano is first.

He is only going to a team where he can play 2b. After that it is really a toss up with guys like Figgins and younger guys like Kendrick... :-?

For arguement's sake, let's just say that Soriano and Figgins DON'T qualify there next year, because as of now they don't, what do the toss-up rankings look like after Utley? That's my question.

While doing the mid-season mock, I've also noticed how shallow 2B is going to be next year.

Soriano will likely lose 2B, unless he gets traded to a team that lets him play 2B.
Figgins' fine since he already started 5 games @ 2B.
Felipe Lopez hasn't played a game at 2B this year.
Bill Hall neeeds 1 more start @ 2B to be eligible, but with the recent trade for Graffanino, I'm not sure if he gets a chance.

So that leaves us with something like
1. Utley
2. Figgins
3. Weeks
4. Sanchez
5. Roberts
6. Giles
7. Kent
8. Cantu
9. Uggla
10. Iguchi
as the top 10 2B

2. Figgins
3. Weeks
4. Sanchez
5. Iguchi
6. Cantu
7. Roberts
8. Uggla
9. Kent
10. Loretta

Ok, my mistake. I thought you needed 5 starts to get it for the current year and 10 starts to keep eligibility from one year to the next. Apparently I'm wrong. It's happened before.

My rankings shake out something like this.

1. Utley
2. Figgins
3. Weeks
4. Roberts
5. Cantu
6. Giles
7. Kent
8. Iguchi
9. Kendrick
10. Uggla

I'm surprised Roberts ranks that high hitting only, I believe, 1 HR so far. I would think Phillips/Castillo/Barfield might be close to the top 10 if not top 10 guys with Giles not having a good year and Kent seemingly always hurt.
