Superteam!

Postby Los_Dodgers » Wed Jul 26, 2006 3:45 am

I'm not sure if this goes here, but I believe it does.

If you guys could choose a team from the current players in the league, what would it look like. Like, for example, next season, all the teams disband except one "superteam" and all players are free agents. Age isn't really a factor here, as it's a team for one season, not for the future as a whole. Please take defense, real positions, and batting order into account, because this is real basebal, not fantasy. Also, for the relievers, I'd prefer 2 set up guys and 2 closers, because picking 4 closers is too easy, but do it however you'd like. Stupid idea? Well, I'm bored. Here goes:

Batting order ( DH included )
1. Jose Reyes, SS
2. Carl Crawford, LF
3. Albert Pujols, 1B
4. David Ortiz, DH
5. Vlad Guerrero, RF
6. Alex Rodriguez, 3B
7. Carlos Beltran, CF
8. Chase Utley, 2B
9. Joe Mauer, C

Some would opt for a strictly power lineup, but though I stayed with power most of the way, I went with Crawford instead of Manny in left because I believe he'd be a better 2 hitter than Ichiro, who I could have chosen instead of Vlad. I went with Utley over Soriano strictly because I have power and Utley is a much better defender. Mauer in the 9 spot is tough, but I just see him as a 3rd tablesetter w/ a small amount of SB potential.

Here is my staff:
1. Johan Santana, LHP
2. Roy Halladay, RHP
3. Francisco Liriano, LHP
4. Brandon Webb, RHP
5. Pedro Martinez, RHP

I figure Pedro has one more season left in him, but I was very, very tempted to put Zambrano or Carpenter in this spot as well.

RP: Zumaya
RP: Shields
CL: Rivera
CL: Nathan

I also was tempted to put Rincon in Zumaya's relief spot, but I think that with another offseason of work, Joel will have surpassed Juan. Also, I prefer Nathan to Papelbon, but I'm sure I'm gonna have a bunch of dudes coming onto here talking about how Papelbon can't be denied and how he is unstoppable and whatnot. Spare me, please.

1. Ichiro (RF)
2. Mauer (C)
3. Pujols (1B)
4. MANRAM (LF)
5. Hafner (DH)
6. Reyes (SS)
7. An. Jones (CF)
8. D. Wright (3B)
9. Utley (2B)

Jones in CF makes up for MANRAM in LF, though I don't think MANRAM is horrible defensively. I'm not sure about Reyes as a SS, I was going to go Jeter but I'm not sure who gets the edge defensively. I think Wright is clearly the best overall 3B as Utley is 2B. Hafner over Ortiz is another tough call and I was thinking about V. Wells over Jones. Excuse my rambling.

SP
1. Jo. Santana
2. Halladay
3. Webb
4. Lackey
5. Liriano

RP
MR R. Soriano
MR Shields
RP Papelbon
RP BJ Ryan

*edit R. Soriano over Rincon

Yes it seems that way doesn't it...Bonds just isn't what he used to be. If you want him to hit 3rd for the walks/OBP i understand, but it's not like they'll be pitching around him with Prince Albert on deck ;-D

It would be awesome if you could clone Johan Santana 4 times, but make him right-handed twice.

SP: Johan Santana (LHP)
SP: Johan Santana II (RHP)
SP: Johan Santana III (LHP)
SP: Johan Santana IV (RHP)
SP: Johan Santana V (LHP)
