Something wrong with everyday Eddie?

Postby Gold Rush » Tue Jul 25, 2006 11:02 pm

This may just be paranoia, but why didn't the Reds use him for the save today? My first thoughts were that he was worked a lot the past couple of day, but he hadn't pitched either of the 2 days before today, even though he has been worked a lot for the Reds overall. But he has had 2 days of rest and all he is asked to do is pitch one inning...

I don't know, any thoughts? or is this just me?

Narron said it was a mangers decision...so apparently no injury

im thinking some sort of discipline or something, though very unusual in MLB

With a 2-0 lead entering the ninth, the Reds didn't use Eddie Guardado against the Astros. Todd Coffey started the inning, and Bill Bray finished for the save.
Guardado hadn't pitched since Saturday, so we can only assume he was injured or ill. If he's DL bound, the Reds would probably go to a committee, with Coffey, Gary Majewski and Bray all being candidates for saves. Jul. 25 - 11:16 pm et

Guardado complained of "arm stiffness" before the game

hopefully nothing serious

This from Cincinnati.com:

Guardado was out with forearm stiffness

HOUSTON -- Eddie Guardado was unavailable tonight due to forearm stiffness. It flared up on him in his last appearance Saturday, he tested it out this afternoon and didn't feel right, so they gave him a night off.

He said he'll be back and available tomorrow night.

"It was a little stiff the last outing I had, actually – just never got loose," he said. "To be honest with you, it takes a lot for me to be out of a game, I’ll tell you that. I’d rather be out there pitching than watching here, because your heart beats faster. They just gave me the day off today, which is fine, and tomorrow I’ll be ready to go out there."
