Am I the only one who doesn't care about MVP and Cy Youngs?

To me, the only trophies and awards should be for teams, divisional titles, Pennants, world Series...

ROY, MVP, CY.... It;s part performance, part geography, part politics, part personality... I don't know why people get worked up about it. The numbers are noted for the record. If a pitcher goes 25-2, a 2.00 ERA and 250Ks. does he really need a trophy? Everybody knows he kicked ass that year. We could stlll use the term a "Cy Youngish" year, but what's the point really. Especially MVP. what is that? THe best player or the most valuable player to his team?

The Dude just isn't in to the whole individual award thing on what is a team sport.

I like your style Dude. I understand. I don't like it especially when win total is what most voters look at especially for Cy Young and RBI total is what most voters look at for MVP.

Was Colon the best pitcher in the AL last year? Most fantasy players could tell you, no, he wasn't, but we're not voters.

I am on the fence here with the Cy and the MVP awards. Its interesting but not whay I watch Baseball.

No I dont really care about them but its nice for the players to be able to rack up awards for confidence and people that look back 60 years from now can say "wow, that Barry Bonds won 7 MVP awards!!"

but I agree that much of it is demographics and politics, just like the Heisman, and NBA awards

They are what they are, don't expect them to represent anything more than that. All three awards focus on the Triple Crown categories and the MVP and Cy Young awards give more weight to players on division winning teams. Its not a by the book representation of the best or most valuable players.

The MVP is the Most Valuable Player Period, to me. Doesn't matter where the team finishes. First or last is irrelevant for me when it comes to deciding who I think is the Most Valuable Player in the game, for a given year.

Others disagree with that, and that's cool as we all have opinions (be pretty boring if everyone agreed on everything), but there's what the MVP should be in my opinion.
