Humberto Sanchez scratched from tonights start??

Postby Dannomyte » Mon Jul 24, 2006 2:43 pm

Tigers prospect Humberto Sanchez will not start for Triple-A Toledo tonight against Durham because of a health reason, according to president and general manager Dave Dombrowski.

The 6-foot-6, 230-pound Sanchez started and pitched one perfect inning for the World team in the All-Star Futures Game on July 9, and was the headline player the Washington Nationals requested in a possible trade of Alfonso Soriano earlier this month.

Sanchez, 23, is 5-3 with a 3.61 ERA in 47 1/3 innings this season for Toledo, but has lost his past two starts. He lasted 4 2/3 innings July 14, giving up seven hits and six earned runs in a 14-2 loss to Scranton. And in a 6-3 loss to Pawtucket on July 19, he gave up six hits and four earned runs in five innings.

Maybe this is because of an imminent trade involving Sanchez??? Or maybe it's just because of "health reasons" like the story says!!

RHP John Ennis has been recalled from Double-A Erie and will join the Mud Hens today. Ennis, who had a 1.50 ERA in 11 appearances with Toledo earlier this season, was 2-3 with a 3.08 ERA and a team-leading 13 saves with the SeaWolves. The Hens will need to make a roster move to open a space for Ennis.

Sanchez scratched and Ennis called up to Toledo?? Probably just coincidence but you never know!!

From Danny Knobler

Sanchez has sore elbow

CLEVELAND -- Humberto Sanchez has a sore elbow, the Tigers say, and won't pitch for Toledo tonight.

Very interesting. I would love it if he were being sat while DD worked out the details of a Soriano trade. They have to be able to sign Alfonso, don't ya think?

I doubt it's a "faked" injury while a trade is worked out, because the last thing you need to state as your "fake" injury is the elbow. I also think I remember that someone on Toledo went on the DL (or got demoted or something) thus leading to Ennis being called up. Just being scratched from a start doesn't make a free roster spot appear for Ennis to be called up to Toledo.

It's getting to that time of year where arms get tired, etc and Humberto's last two starts haven't been too sharp, so hopefully it isn't anything major.
