He wasn't that impressive today. He got by on some luck, some good defense, and some awful Royals hitting. It probably should have been more of a 5 inning, 4 run performance. His stuff was no where near what I have seen it at, and his control wasn't good. He missed his spots quite a bit.

Still impressive that he's 7-0.

Liriano has the best control and has Johan to tutor him. Obviously Liriano would win. He also has the wins and the Ks to support his ranking among those pitchers.

4 walks is hardly normal for star pitchers. 4 walks means questionable control for any pitcher.

He's off to a hot start, but I also read he's faced one offense that ranks in the top half of the AL. Let's see him face Boston, Chicago, and some high powered AL teams and see what happens.

Yeah or a hot team or a powerhouse like Cleveland.

Fun thing is Weaver's manager was Valenzuela's catcher. ;-)

" some awful Royals hitting" might have had something to do with the pitching.... He's largey a contact out pitcher and only goes for Ks if he's already got two strikes on you, so he is dependent on the D, but the guys who hit him rarely put good wood on the ball because he doesn't bring pitches right down broadway.

4 walks isn't great, but that's his worst walk outing ever... It's usually 1 or 2 tops, and normally a power hitters who's hot and with nobody on.

Both Scioscia and Weaver said he wasn't as sharp as he normally was, but he went 6 2-3 innings giving up three hits and one run. His ERA actually went UP -- from 1.12 to 1.15 in 47 innings... Panic time... If he doesn't watch it, he might hit 1.20 on the ERA someday.

from yahoo:

Over 47 innings, Weaver has yielded six runs and limited hitters to a .159 batting average. After Sunday, when Weaver gave up just one run in 6 2/3 innings, his earned-run average actually climbed three-hundredths of a point to 1.15. 8-o
