I think Larkin gets in. He was, to my memory, the 1st real SS as an offensive & defensive threat in the NL, maybe even the MLB. He was also the 1st 30-30 SS ever. He also has a WS title (and yes he could do back flips like Ozzie too, lol).

Ripken played in about 900 more games than Larkin over relatively the same amount of time. Quite a shame because I really, really believe he will never be voted into the HOF.
Even more frustrating is that Jeter will, how sad.

Besides his offense, Ripken is in for a totally different reason

What reason? Are you implying that the consecutive games streak is why Ripken is int he Hall?? :-? We already had an entire several page debate on him that spoke the contrary.

If Larkin doesn't go in 1st or 2nd ballot to me it will prove that the consecutive games streak IS what got Ripken in. I was being modest before, but really Larkin was a far superior hitter, fielder, and clutch performer.

I'd like to see your support for the clutch performer statement.

Note I said besides his offense. The consecutive games streak would also have been enough to get him in. Combined, it makes him a consensus first ballot choice. He was one of the best offensive shortstops of the modern era, no argument from me

The only support you can have for such a statement, years of watching him play on a consistent basis.

Player OPS+ BRAA FRAA WARP3 SB RC/27
Larkin 116 311 49 120.9 379 5.92
Ripken 112 190 139 165.6 36 5.38

Ripken peaked a little higher, Larkin was useful for longer, Ripken played for longer.

The two also arguably innovated the shortstop position. I think they both go.

Larkin gets in, but not first ballot. I think he gets in on the 2nd or 3rd ballot fairly easily though as his offense and defensive effort combined get him there.

Umm. Barry Larkin isn't a Hall of Famer. He doesn't pass my "walking the hall" test.

(If you walked the hall and saw his plaque would you stop and say "REALLY?!??")

Does Don Mattingly pass that test?? How about Bernie Williams?? :-?

Something tells me they may, yet Larkin deserves to be in over both, along with a crapload of others, to date Derek Jeter to boot.
