Roger Angell: I was talking with Bob Gibson and I said: 'Are you always this competitive?' He said: 'Oh, I think so. I got a three-year old daughter, and I've played about 500 games of tic-tac-toe with her and she hasn't beat me yet.'

The Pirates are crafting a deal that would send outfielder Brian Giles to the Padres, ESPN's Peter Gammons reports. The trade likely would involve a combination of San Diego players, including LHP Oliver Perez, LHP Corey Stewart, 1B Xavier Nady and OF Jason Bay. It is not yet known which players would be involved in the final deal.
The trade could take place as early as Tuesday.
Giles has been one of baseball's steadiest run producers since joining the Pirates, hitting at least .309 all but one season and averaging 36 homers and 109 RBI.
Last season, he hit .298 with 38 homers and 103 RBI despite walking 135 times, the most of any NL player except Barry Bonds.

So we aren't trading Kendall? Then I think we should ask for more, considering we're giving up the underpaid outfielder who was only the second best hitter in the NL last year (and still sports a .430 OBP in a very down year).
