Interesting Message From Maddux

Postby knapplc » Fri Jul 21, 2006 1:16 am

When Cubs bench coach Dick Pole returned to his locker after Wednesday's game, there was a baseball waiting for him, autographed by Greg Maddux.

The message was, "Thanks for all the help, 200th loss."

When Maddux lost to Roger Clemens and the Astros on Wednesday, it was his 200th career loss.

From here.

That's pretty interesting. I don't know what to make of it - anyone else?

This is part of something that Maddux has done with Pole for a while now. A few years back Pole complained that Maddux never gives him any of his balls when he's reached statistical milestones. So in response Maddux has given him balls for any negative milestones he reaches. Like giving up his XXXth home run, etc. Its basically an ongoing joke between the two.

Looks like the joke has finished now that Maddux has gone to the Dodgers
