Cub's Marmol

What does everyone think about Marmol? Deciding whether to pick him up. Desparate for pitching and it is slim picking!

I suspect he's going to be very good, but there are no gaurantees.

The key stat to watch is his walks per inning rate, it's too high. When and if you see that # start trending down, he's going to be good. He's young, so you can't expect everything, but other than walks, his underlying #s are very good. I don't see him being the next liriano or anything, but I think he might be a good #2 pitcher if his control gets better.

Carlos Marmol is a 23 YO pitcher for the Cubs who is a converted catcher. Here is a scouting report by firstinning.com.

Marmol is a converted catcher who can throw hard and experienced some success in the minors last year. His control is poor, however, and FIPro isn't optimistic about his chances as a major league pitcher.

With the year lost for the Cubs, expect Carlos Marmol, Angel Guzman and Rich Hill to get looks the rest of the way so the Cubs can better decide what they will do in the off-season for pitching. Marmol is 3-3 3.86 ERA 1.40 WHIP 39 K 29 BB, you would like to see less walks but the guy is getting the job done more than he isnt. He is trying to earn a rotation spot for 2007 and beyond.

He probably won't be much of an option this year but future, maybe.
