How to combat roster churners/streamers?

Postby jealousblues » Thu Jul 20, 2006 1:24 pm

Is that the right term?

My opponent in h2h this week is picking up SP's for a start then dropping them.

He was as high as number two this season, and just dropped down to like 7-8th.

What should I do to combat this, or is there not much I can do?

droped Hudson, picked up Padilla, droped westbrook, picked up minor, dropped moyer, added buchholtz, droped buchholz, droped armas, added madson, droped madson, added morris, droped morris, added hendrickson, droped hendrickson, added cook

all that since the 12th.

he is currently beating me in wins 3-2, and in K's 26-19

but im beating him in ERA 1.66-5.01 and in WHIP 0.88-1.25

You can create more categories based on quality and not quantity. Things like K/9 and L can even it out.

Beat him in hitting + ERA, whip and saves and pick up pitchers like Hudson when he drops them

The term is streaming. Streaming is very risky because many times you drop a guy you regret dropping. It's only very useful during the postseason of your league. But one way to combat it is to make rate stats more important. I think putting a limit on moves is kind of lame.

Would Hudson be that good of an addition? I had Mulder last year, and he plays for my favorite team (there for I hate EX A's pitchers).

Huddys ERA is like around 5 now, plus he doesnt really K that many.

My SP's now are

Zambrano
Clemens
Liriano
Contreras
Haren
Felix Hernandez
Anthony Reyes
John "worst trade for me ever" Patterson DL

The only guy I could see me droping for him is Reyes, as Felix gets a good deal of K's.

The way to combat it is to laugh at the guy when the crappy pichers he picks up do bad. He may get the edge in W's and K's, but he's killing himself in the other 2 so it evens out.

I'd probably want Hudson over Reyes.

My opponent added Hendrickson yesterday and Cook today, but I really have no idea why and I refuse to combat it since we count hits given up, HR given up, losses, and K/9. That evens out spot starting for the most part, IMO.

I know Hudson is a vet, and I usually go for Vets over rookies

But Reyes has been up for about 5-6 starts, and he has 3.83 ERA
31Ks to 13 BB and a 1.12 WHIP

while Hudson has a 4.95 ERA 81K to 45 BB and a 1.45 WHIP
