um sheff has 16 SB, to go along with his amazingness in the other 4 fantasy catgories. This is why he is ranked #1 in fantasy by yahoo. Sheffield all year has been the best fantasy player and the best 5 catrgory fantasy player
The problem with Beltran is that he is not much of a power hitter. He has 21 HRs, 7 3B, and only 8 2B. He only has 36 extra base hits. That's rather low for a "power" hitter. His SLG% is only .513 which is very low for a"power" hitter.
here's the 5 and 4 Cat players for hitters. Category means they were top 40 in the 5 Categories:
Pos. Last Categ. Team
OF Sheffield, 5 Atl
SS Garciaparra5 Bos
SS Rodriguez, 5 Tex
1B/OF Pujols, 4 StL
1B Helton, 4 Col
OF Bonds, 4 SF
OF Ordonez, 4 CWS
OF Ramirez, 4 Bos
OF Gonzalez, 4 Ari
OF Wells, 4 Tor
OF Beltran, 4 KC
OF Abreu, 4 Phi

But is that more valuable than someone who hits 40 HRs and 18 SBs?
it all goes back to which 5 categories: Real or Fantasy. real is what was mentioned: average, power, running, fielding throwing. Fantasy is the categories in a 5x5 league: R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG. regardless, it's beltran for both in my opinion.

Exactly. Everyone here seems to be forgetting the fielding and throwing categories when talking about a 5-tool player. It seems fantasy has altered people's perception of an all-around ball player. In addition to Beltran's diverse fantasy prowess, he is a defensive stud.
