Wow, the guy is hitting .100 points below his career OPS average. When he's on he's easily one of the better hitters in the entire league, but he's slugging nowhere near what he's capable of, and he's not walking nearly as much as he has in the past. I didn't know he was struggling this bad...
I couldn't say what the problem is though, don't watch the his team enough. A Mets fan could probably help you out here.

On the recent homestand he went 2/16 with 1 RBI, 0 HR, 7 K's.
Shea is known for taking away some HR, but it doesn't explain why his average is so poor or why walks are down.
Shea favors LH power.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
Aren't the dimensions of Shea nearly identical? I know Strawberry used to jack em out, but I never noticed a particular advantage to LH or RH. Huh, I'll have to check.
How embarassing for a Met fan not to know! Oh well...
In any case, it is a pitcher's park, so I would expect a slight decline in the stats, but not the big difference he's got.
