J.J. Hardy, who has been on the DL since May 17, will undergo season-ending surgery on his right ankle next week.
Hardy will undergo a retinacular repair to stabilize the peroneal tendon in his right ankle and is expected to need three to four months to recover. Hardy played in just 35 games this season and hit .242/.295/.398 in 128 at-bats. As a result, he might have to compete for a starting job next spring. Bill Hall will play regularly at shortstop for the rest of the year.
