Sure Cantu had a huge year with Hr & RBI last year. But aside from last year what has the guy ever done.He never hit for any average or power in the minors(look at his stats, very unimpressive). He has been back long enough now from his injury so we could all get a good sampling. No power, doesn't hit for any kind of average & has no supporting cast.He is an average 2nd baseman at best.I watch him plenty on the MLB package & he doesn't impress me at all.He always swings at the breaking ball down & away & whiffs a ton.
Eh pretty damn good hitting/power in 2004 AAA, and decent in 03, and damn good in the bigs last year. He was a little better in the second half last year than the first.
He's the type that doesnt like to take a walk, and will swing at a lot of pitches out of the zone, but he has a knack for making contact and will crush a mistake ball.
I think pitchers got the scouting report this year and are trying to exploit his free swinging style. He'll need to show a little more patience
That said, I fully expect him to go on a hotstreak and put up relatively big numbers for a 2b man

time to drop ?
Why is he in a huge slump? He was hurt for a long time. Since he's been back he's been about what I expected him to be. A 20 HR 2B, that will drive in a lot of runs, and wil hit for decent avg. Last year was probably towards his ceiling numbers wise. He hasn't hit for avg so far this month, so his numbers may look a little worse than they are since he was out so long. A .275 avg, and 9-11 HR's with 40 RBI should be attainable for him the rest of the way.

16/80 (0.200) in the last 20 games with 6runs & 10rbis is not "what I expected him to be"

And what exactly did you "expect him to be?"
Actually over the last 20 games he's hitting .176. But the 15 games before that he was 22/66 .333, with 11 runs, and 11 RBI. He's been in a slump, but I'd hardly call it a huge slump. Don't worry, he'll get hot again. I think you're expectations may have been a bit too high.
